Visa Europe has announced that its new V.me digital wallet service will launch in the selected markets of UK, Spain and France in the autumn of 2012. It was also announced that WorldPay, the payments processing specialist, will act as key development partner in the delivery of the V.me service in the UK, with further development and launch partners in each market sector, including banks and retailers, expected to be announced soon.

The service will be made available through Visa’s member banks and will initially be accessed through via Internet browsers on PCs, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Consumers are expected to be able to load multiple cards into the wallet.

The V.me offering is ultimately set to allow consumers to carry out face-to-face, online or mobile payments. WorldPay will also provide commercial and propositional advice to ensure that Visa’s V.me offering meets retailer needs and expectations.

The news follows a November 2011 announcement in which Visa revealed that it had chosen the V.me name for its upcoming digital wallet that would allow customers to top up an account via a Visa card or a bank account in order to shop online or via their mobile devices.
