Southern European e-commerce market full of potential

Shares

Southern Europe is a potentially large and fast-developing e-commerce market in Europe, with a wide spectrum of local differences. In terms of B2C e-commerce, the region is not yet as mature as its Western and Northern neighbor regions. However, it shows progressive growth and a promising market development. Southern European consumers are increasingly incorporating online activities and e-commerce in their lives. E-commerce in Southern Europe is steadily growing every year, outpacing growth of traditional retail and services.
Online sales have grown yearly since 2010. It is forecast that growth will slow down, but still reach high single or low double-digit figures through 2015. With the exception of Croatia, Cyprus and Malta, Southern European consumers mainly purchase at local websites. However, they are open for offers from international retailers. This depends highly on the domestic offer available.

This is all revealed by the latest report on B2C e-commerce in Southern Europe by Ecommerce Europe. Ecommerce Europe is the European umbrella organization for online retailers. Figures in Ecommerce Europe reports are based on the Global Online Measurement Standard for B2C E-commerce (GOMSEC). Ecommerce Europe also published comprehensive Regional Reports on B2C E-commerce in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe and Western Europe.
