Impact of COVID-19 on fashion: Zalando’s Connected Retail Program offers support to physical stores

In today’s times, the fashion industry is heavily affected by the Coronavirus crisis and physical retail is hit particularly hard. Recent lockdown of stores has cut retailers in several countries off from demand.

The European e-commerce company Zalando wants to be part of the solution for the fashion sector, as it recently announced that it wants to use its capabilities and resources to contribute to solving the most urgent challenges. Zalando was recently in close contact with its partners who stressed that the “Connect Retail Program” was of great use to them. This program runs in Germany and allows offline retailers to fulfill sales made online on Zalando, thus generating additional revenue.

Zalando announced that it wishes to accelerate this initiative connecting physical retailers to its platform:

  • The program is now extended to work in Germany and the Netherlands.
  • During the crisis, from 1st April until 31st May, Zalando waives commissions on all new and existing retailers in Connected Retail to maximize the sales they can make through the platform.
  • Zalando switches from a monthly to a weekly pay-out schedule in order to quickly provide additional liquidity to retailers.
