Global E-commerce Summit 2017: Policy Arena “Thinking outside the parcel box”

Shares

For the first time in the history of the conference, Ecommerce Europe presents four policy tracks within the Global E-commerce Summit program. As in previous years, we have invited policymakers, C-level speakers from prominent e-commerce companies and promising start-ups as well as other influential stakeholders to discuss the effects of upcoming policy changes in Europe on the e-commerce sector. The objective is to learn how online merchants can prepare themselves for upcoming technological and regulatory developments. Ecommerce Europe’s policy tracks provide participants with the opportunity to have a say on the most pressing topics in e-commerce related policy.

Panel discussion on ‘Logistics’ and cross-border parcel delivery

On 14 June, day 2 of the Global E-commerce Summit, Ecommerce Europe’s Policy Arena will focus on upcoming legislation and future developments in global e-commerce. A panel discussion in the morning will focus on parcel delivery and on how Ecommerce Europe is transforming the old, analog parcel into a digital and interconnected one, to the benefit of all parties.

Ecommerce Europe is proud to have chaired the work within the European Standardization Committee (CEN) to harmonize postal and supply chain management standards to enable one item label for the delivery of merchandise to end customers. This is a major step forward to really innovate cross-border parcel delivery services in Europe. Ecommerce Europe is convinced that such a harmonized standard label will revolutionize e-commerce and the parcel delivery market, not only at EU level but also globally. The parcel delivery session will explain the audience, in practical terms, the potential benefits of the work done by Ecommerce Europe on parcel delivery and will address, amongst others, the following questions:

  • Are the current efforts of the EU enough to accommodate the demands of such a fast-growing e-commerce market?
  • What is your opinion about the open, harmonized parcel label that Ecommerce Europe has been developing?
  • Do you think that all parties involved properly understand how the harmonized label could revolutionize the parcel delivery sector? Do you think that more should be done more to make stakeholders understand its importance? If yes, what do you suggest?
