According to the latest surveys by the statistical bureau Eurostat, 43 percent of Europeans aged between 16 and 75 years purchased something online in 2011. At the forefront were Sweden and the UK (each with 71 percent). In Germany, approximately 64 percent used the Internet for shopping while in France the figure was 53 per cent. In Italy there is still great potential: only 15 percent of Italians bought with a click in 2011. Only in Romania (6 percent) and Bulgaria (7 percent) were there fewer online consumers than Italy.
