On the kind invitation by Marc Lolivier of FEVAD, the French e-commerce association, Ecommerce Europe held committee meetings in the fields of e-Regulations, e-Payments and the European Trustmark on 11 February at the headquarters of the organization’s Paris’ office.
The two-day membership days kicked off Thursday morning with a meeting of the Ecommerce Europe e-Regulations Working Committee discussing both the European Commission’s preliminary public consultation results on geo-blocking & online platforms. Thanks to the great input provided by all attendants, our policy advisors are currently updating and finalizing the position papers, expected to become available by the end of February.
The morning e-Regulations Committee session was followed by afternoon sessions of the e-Payments and the Ecommerce Europe Trustmark Working Committees. An overarching theme of the e-Payments Working Committee was the issue of authentication and payment security. On the Payment Services Directive 2, the Committee shortly discussed the recent EBA discussion paper and heard a short presentation from new Ecommerce Europe Company Member Amazon on a multi-factor authentication study. Furthermore, the e-Payments Working Committee discussed Instant Payments and the Interchange Fees Regulation. On the latter, the Committee also heard a very interesting presentation by MasterCard on national implementation and future payment methods.
During the day’s final Committee meeting on the Ecommerce Europe Trustmark, members discussed common denominators between national Trustmark schemes and their complementation with the Ecommerce Europe Trustmark scheme. The Working Committee also received an update and discussed the latest developments in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR).
On Friday, Ecommerce Europe’s Board of Directors meeting was hosted by Vente-privee (the pioneer of online flash sales, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year), in the same room where Ecommerce Europe was founded. Ecommerce Europe was delighted to have gotten a great tour of the Vente-privee premises by Co-founder and Communication and New Bizz Director Xavier Court. As an organization representing more than 25.000+ companies selling products and/or services online to consumers in Europe, it was useful to gain a first-hand experience of the behind-the-scenes operations of one of Europe’s largest e-commerce businesses.
Ecommerce Europe would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to Marc Lolivier and the FEVAD-team for hosting the Working Committees and Xavier Court and Vente-privee for hosting the Board of Directors meeting and their tour through the premises of the company.
