In relation to the Proposal for a Regulation on ePrivacy, still under discussion in the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, Ecommerce Europe decided to start an ad hoc “Subgroup on privacy and data protection”, which will be composed of several experts in these fields mainly coming from the National Associations of Ecommerce Europe. The scope of the new Subgroup will not be limited to ePrivacy only, but it will also cover the implementation of the already adopted General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In fact, Ecommerce Europe has been selected by the European Commission’s DG JUST to take part in a new Stakeholder Expert Group in relation to the application of the Regulation. Léon Mölenberg, Senior Policy Advisor, and Mina Zoulovits, Legal Advisor of the Greek E-commerce Association GRECA, will represent Ecommerce Europe in the upcoming meetings of the Commission’s Expert Group.
The Ecommerce Europe’s Subgroup on privacy and data protection will, therefore, also support Léon Mölenberg and Mina Zoulovits in preparation for the upcoming tasks that will come from the Expert Group on GDPR of the European Commission. The main objectives of the Commission’s Group is to assist the Commission in identifying the potential challenges in the application of the GDPR from the perspective of different stakeholders and advise on how to address them; provide DG JUST with recommendations on how to achieve an appropriate level of awareness about the new regulation among different stakeholders, including businesses and citizens; provide the Commission with advice and expertise in relation to the preparation of delegated acts and, where appropriate and necessary, the early preparation of implementing acts to be adopted under the GDPR.
