The growth rate of the Eastern European Gross Domestic product fell significantly, to 2.2%, in 2013. This had been more than five times as much in the year before (12.6%). The strong decline that started in 2010, and which was caused by the struggling European economy, continued. For 2014, this trend is expected to continue, as a growth rate of -7.6% is forecast.
With regard to the share of e-commerce in the GDP, Eastern Europe is below the EU28 and European averages. With an eGDP of 1.35%, Ukraine is leading the way in this region. It is followed by Russia (0.98%), Romania (0,73%) and Bulgaria (0.50%). The other countries in the region have a combined eGDP of 0.63%.
This is all revealed by the latest report on B2C e-commerce in Eastern Europe by Ecommerce Europe. Ecommerce Europe is the European umbrella organization for online retailers. Figures in Ecommerce Europe reports are based on the Global Online Measurement Standard for B2C E-commerce (GOMSEC).
