On February the 28th, the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) approved a compromise on the mutual recognition of electronic identification and certifications. The draft regulation on e-signatures and e-identification must still be approved by the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry (ITRE) on the 18th of March and then by plenary vote in the European Parliament in April.

Ecommerce Europe welcomes the news of mutual recognition on e-signatures and e-identity as this facilitates cross-border e-commerce trade across Europe. Ecommerce Europe urges the European Parliament’s ITRE Committee to endorse the proposed regulation, and to take a holistic approach towards e-identification, authentication, and e-Signatures.
