According to Ecommerce Europe member Becommerce, Belgian online retailers reached record high sales during the 2012 holiday season: €235 million or around 25% more than in 2011. One company even reported a plus of 50 per cent!
Online shoppers wish to avoid stressful shopping in busy shops, do not want to be limited by opening hours of shops and appreciate this easy way of shopping. Popular products are fashion, mulitimedia, toys and software, according to the Belgian association Becommerce.
In comparison, in neighboring the Netherlands Thuiswinkel.org, the Dutch association for e-commerce, registered a growthof over 30% for the holiday season. In Belgium, the biggest sales were recorded between 7 and 31 December: almost 55% of total holiday sales.
In the US, on Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving and traditionally is one of the best shopping days for online retailers: the day after Thanksgiving 2012 online shops recorded 15,2% of their annual sales.
