- 30 October: German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that Germany will begin a ‘lockdown light’ as of 2 November to fight the rise in COVID-19 infections.
- 03 September: German Health Minister Jens Spahn said that Germany would do the lockdown differently now with the knowledge and experience gained since the first COVID-19 wave. Spahn said measures could have been less strict, now that we know we can deal with the virus if we wear masks and keep distance.
- 27 August: Germany introduced new measures to make testing mandatory for arriving passengers. On airports this will result in a local testing center. Travelers arriving by car, bus or train will have to visit a testing facility on their own initiative if they do not run into one during the border crossing.
